There are two Spectators Terraces behind glass at Cologne and the best time to use them is from early afternoon onwards when the sun goes behind you when standing on the one I have called "Terrace 1"below.

When I was here before the flight times from Edinburgh were later in the day arriving about 3pm so after picking up my luggage I searched out the Terrace that looks onto the main runway and spent a half hour there taking a few shots through the glass which has a fair amount of tint in it.

I noticed though that three locals had brought their small steps with them to get over the top of it and it looks like the Authorities must be okay with this as there are cameras overlooking the Terrace so this would have been clearly in view.

When I had arrived on the Thursday and went here for a couple of hours someone had brought a big step ladder up to shoot some Cargo aircraft parked up at the sheds so it is worth being a small one with you if visiting, my step that I have had at various Airport is 27 inches and would have been ideal for the job here.

I don't have much more to add about Cologne other than that the second Terrace is easily reached by walking down the steps from the first one and heading to the left for a few hundered yards bringing you a view looking towards remote Hangers where some Military aircraft and a lot of Fokker 50's sit, there was also an Antonov 124 here this day too.

Movement wise there can be some dull periods so you have to stick at it but the Cargo aircraft can be interesting with plenty of UPS on the Ramp later on in the evening and night.
