Before going to Frankfurt in June 2003 I had already planned this 4 day July/August trip and had booked up my flights a couple of months before sorting out the arrangments for the June visit however this time I would be travelling on my own.

My June visit to Frankfurt was with two friends and on that one we had transport giving us the advantage of being able to go first to the Rhein Main side in the morning while the sun was behind and then moving to the viewing area at Runway 18 from mid afternoon onwards but on this trip I would be on foot so planned to go to the Rhein Maine side in the morning and then head back to the Spectators Terrace in late afternoon for the rest of the day.

My travelling arrangements this time were from Edinburgh to Cologne by using Germanwings who had a special introductory offer of £2 for a return flight with no tax to pay so I had taken full advantage of that one with a few flights booked on this amazing offer.

After making my way to Edinburgh by two buses taking approximately 2 hours all in including waiting time I checked in for my flight and was sitting Airside waiting for the Germanwings A319 to arrive when a friend appeared and asked where I was going so I said Frankfurt and he said "me too", it turned out that we were going on the same flight with me staying one day longer.

Even better I had booked a Hotel and planned to go by train from Cologne to Frankfurt while he had a car booked but no Hotel, what a coincidence so we both saved on the trip costs.

We arrived on the Frankfurt Terrace at 4-40pm and it was very warm and dull at first but brightened up okay 20 minutes later so I managed to shoot a few good ones including the huge South African Airlines A340-600 being towed to Stand that wasn't long in service with the Airline.

After a brief look in at the Runway 18 viewing spot we headed off to the Ibis hotel close to Frankfurt's Railway Station, this area is good to stay in as there are lots of places to eat in the Railway Station including a Supermarket for your morning provisions and plenty of Fast Food and resturants dotted all around within easy walking distance.

The next days weather forecast was for sunshine and very warm tempertures so I got my camera gear sorted out, charged up my batteries for the Digital camera and was all set for a long day's shooting.
