When I came to Edinburgh this day for the French Rugby Charters I had only one shot in mind and that was to shoot the Air France 747-400 departing head on and in sunshine so when it worked out just as I had hoped it made my visit here worthwhile just to get this one picture. The last 747 visit at Edinburgh was a European one back in September 2005 which I also shot from here and it deposited dirt and small stones onto the Runway so it had to be closed for 25 minutes to let a sweeping vehicle remove the debris. When 747's depart from Edinburgh there is always a Runway inspection afterwards and you can see two Ops vehicles that have just entered the Runway to start their inspection.
At Glasgow in 2003 I saw an Atlanta 747 take out some Runway edge lights with jetblast and you get an idea how it can happen when the outer engines are pretty much right over them here too. |
